FOLLOWING WEEK—THREE CLASSROOM COMPUTER
WORKSHOPS; LIMITED SEATING AT FREE SESSIONS;
REGISTER EARLY VIA E-MAIL
WORKSHOP
NO. 1: TUESDAY, MARCH 27, AT 10 A.M. will demonstrate how to make the most
efficient use of the computer keyboard in executing commands. Sure the mouse is handy, but knowing just a
few basic keyboard skills can make it even easier and faster. Marge Langley will discuss the layout
of the computer keyboard, and demonstrate some basic keyboarding at our
SeniorNet Classroom at the Phantom Lake Elementary School. Because of classroom space limitations, only
the first 15 e-mail reservations for this session will be accepted on a
first-come basis. For this and the following two workshops, please send your
e-mail reservations early to Curriculum Coordinator John Wise, at jandlwise@worldnet.att.net who is
in charge of the workshops. Please include the word “workshop” in the
subject line.
WORKSHOP NO. 2: THURSDAY, MARCH 29, at 10 A.M. will pull the covers off those marvelous computers and explain how it works on the inside. And the obvious person to do this is Facilities Coordinator Ken Crandall, the one who keeps the equipment operating, will also demonstrate how to add new hardware, install a graphics card, and even better, also how to add a new Hard Drive to really boost storage capacity. Again, at our SeniorNet classroom at the school, for this second and third workshops, no more than 20 persons can be admitted to each session.
WORKSHOP NO. 3: THURSDAY, MARCH 29, AT 1:15 P.M. will demonstrate a much-valued skill these days with the new write-to CD disks . This new media allows you to write ―burn― data, music, graphics and even sound files to a high capacity removable disk. Curriculum Coordinator John Wise will outline the different types of write-to disks, techniques needed, discuss CD-R and CD-RW drives and which is best to use for each specific purpose. Many computer users are now using these inexpensive 650-meg CD-R, or CD-RW disks to back up hard drives or just individual files. What’s the difference between the disks? John will explain.
REMINDER: Because of our limited classroom size, only
20 persons can be admitted to each of the second
and third sessions. Also, first-come,
first-served, via your e-mail reservation to John at his
e-mail address of jandlwise@worldnet.att.net. He will respond to each message
indicating workshop attendance.
