In line with suggestions by PRES. HELEN
HESKETH, and PAST PRES. CLIF
WUESTHOFF that it would be a good idea to
have an online personal-style
Newsletter to augment the notices etc sent
out by Helen, and the excellent
printed publications and news by PAST PRES.
LYLE HERNANDEZ, consider this the
debut issue.
Goal of this very informal online Newsletter to be issued
whenever there is surplus electricity
available, is to more closely bind
together our members, and students. Editor of this enterprise is PHIL
SCHEIER who can be reached with your brief
personal news items and anecdotes,
trips, unique computer experiences, at:
B26hiflyer@aol.com.
FIRST CALL: Would appreciate it if our
instructors would collect the email
addresses of those students already online,
and forward them to the Editor to
include them in the loop. After all, they are
our future instructors and
teacher assistants.

PRES. HELEN and HUSBAND JOE back from a
needed winter break in Hawaii, just
in time for the heavy rains.....RAY and MARY
HANSEN back from a trip to
Baltimore to visit with family...Planning
some exotic trips shortly (No names
please until their return) are members
heading for French Polynesia and the
Cook Islands, with another planning for his
trip to Egypt where he plans to
float down the Nile. Concerned friends
working up a collection for a set of
water wings to keep him afloat.... Ongoing
improvements in our classroom with
FACILITIES COORDINATOR KEN CRANDALL planning
to install new computers, a new high-speed line etc.
AN UNNAMED MEMBER, at his request, reports he
has learned the hard way the
secret of accessing his CD drive despite
getting the flash screen message it
can't be accessed after he tries to reach
it....The secret: Make sure there
actually is a CD disk in the drive. Until he
checked the loading drawer, he
was ready to call more knowledgeable
SeniorNet colleagues for help...When
HARRY SULLY some years back bemoaned the lack
of members being able to meet
other members socially in one place at one
time, to better know each other,
exchange ideas, he did something about it.
Our beloved Sully came up with the
idea of a monthly 11 a.m. Kaffee Klatch the
first Tuesday of every month at
the Crossroads Mall famed food circus, where
there are lots of movable
tables, chairs, and plenty of enticing food
choices. And every month there is
always a large gathering of members.
(What? Sorry, it's no-host)

SENIORNET EVERYWHERE: When PHIL SCHEIER
attended the annual reunion of his WW11 B26 squadron in Tucson, AZ, a short
time ago, where he met again with a
buddy, Harvey Jacobs, in 1943 one of the youngest pilots of a
medium bomber
in England, it was SeniorNet time again.
Harv,earlier, at the suggestion of
Phil, via email, joined his Chicago-area
SeniorNet, not to learn, but to be
an assistant. And in short time, took on
teaching duties....At the Tucson
reunion, Harv and Phil transformed the
Hampton Inn business center, with its
guest computer, into a junior SeniorNet class
for equally aging buddies....When the reunion ended, several more good friends
left with new insights into computer operations, and with an enlarged online
network spanning the country.

WHEN ARE YOU COMING OUT OF THAT ROOM????-Many
spouses, and that includes women and men, know what computer addiction can lead
to when the spouse
finally tries to get them to take a
break....and do some work, serve a meal,
do the dishes, mow the lawn etc. Now comes RAY HANSEN, with two computers in
his home, His and Hers, with some thoughts:
"Not all couples share all hobbies and
interests. If computers are yours, and
not your partner's, don't despair. Here are
tips from people who have been
there, done that:
"DO share info such as humor and the
reading and writing of email to family
and friends....DO set up your gear in the
family room, or get a portable
computer the area....DO ask for input such as
info or help getting to web
sites having to do with the other's
interests....DO get a separate computer
if partner starts to get interested...And, as
with driving, skiing, whatever,
arrange for the partner to get their
instructions from anyone else and
someplace else." OK Ray, Gotcha!
CURRICULUM COORDINATOR HAL MOZER, despite his
heavy workload, also teaches a Windows class and seems to enjoy his volunteer
work so much, one would think he is being paid..... One of his teaching aides
confided he is learning more from just being there as an alleged assistant than
he has in the past checking the manuals.
